Greensboro Police Chief Cameron Afzal announced a series of community meetings in June intended to "share his vision for the department and learn about neighborhood needs," city officials said. Afzal said the meetings will bring department leadership to neighborhood sites to gather input.
Afzal provided dates and locations for the outreach: June 4 at Peeler Recreation Center; June 8 at Barber Park Event Center; June 15 at Brown Recreation Center; June 22 at Leonard Recreation Center; June 25 at Lindley Rec Center; and June 29 at Guilford Park Presbyterian Church. "All meetings are 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.," he said.
The announcement frames the sessions as an opportunity for residents to meet department leaders and offer neighborhood perspectives. Afzal said the meetings will run "over the next month" and are meant to be listening sessions rather than formal hearings. The chief did not provide additional details in the announcement about formats, staff who will attend, or how feedback will be recorded or used.
Afzal closed by reiterating the goal of community engagement and said more details would be provided through department channels. No formal votes or actions were announced at the time of the statement.
