The County denied an application to sell Agua Fresca and strawberry lemonade inside the Pottawattamie County Courthouse lobby after board members raised concerns about precedent, indoor space use and insurance.
Jason Slack, director of buildings and grounds, said he had not reviewed the application in detail but that it appeared to be a personal or family fundraiser. Board members questioned how allowing one vendor inside the lobby would affect future requests and noted the county had previously allowed coffee vendors outside the building.
Supervisor Wickman moved to deny the application as submitted; Supervisor Miller seconded and the motion carried by voice vote. Members said they would be willing to consider a permit for vending outside the courthouse if the applicant reapplies with a revised plan.
Jason Slack and county staff were asked to coordinate follow-up contact with the applicant to explain the denial and the option to apply for outdoor use of county grounds.
