At its May 26 meeting, the Town of Sellersburg council received routine staff updates on local projects and approved routine procedural items, including the meeting agenda, prior minutes and allowance claims.
Staff said they met with the Indiana Department of Transportation on May 15 and expected an INDOT press release around June 1 about traffic-pattern changes on U.S. 31 to accommodate summer school traffic. Charlie, a town staff member, said Sunflower Valley is ready to bid and that the Indiana Finance Authority (IFA) is expected to pay for the entire project, “no money out of the town’s pocket.”
Other updates included preliminary drawings and draft specifications for a raw water main, progress on town-center easements (with upcoming meetings to secure signatures, including property owners such as McDonald’s), IvyTech 2 being substantially complete and operational pending a final punch-list, and relocation projects on Highway 60 and St. Joe that have been delayed by rain. Staff also said discussions are ongoing between IvyTech, Sellersburg and Baptist Health about who will build, own and operate a pump station; Sharon Hardy was identified as an attorney for Baptist Health.
Procedural votes recorded on voice were: adoption of the meeting agenda (motion noted in transcript as “motion by Randy; second by Mark”), approval of previously submitted minutes (motion by Matt; second by Randy) and approval of allowance claims (motion recorded in the transcript with a mover identified as “Mad” and a second). Each voice vote was announced as approved. The meeting adjourned following a motion by Matt and a second by Mark.
During general public comment, a resident identified as Charlie Pierce (9108 Highway 60) raised questions about the right-of-way permitting process; that discussion was carried into the new-business item and is being reviewed by staff and legal counsel.
No ordinances or resolutions were adopted at the meeting; the council took no formal action on the right-of-way draft and asked staff to seek legal review of enforceability for several proposed provisions.
