The Portage Township Schools Board of Trustees recognized staff milestone anniversaries and several retirees at the May 26 meeting, and the chair announced that a board member’s resignation had been filed with the clerk.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and a years‑of‑service presentation that honored staff across milestone categories including 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years. The board named multiple staff members by category (including Sandy Porter Phillips, Anna Jones, Melissa Phillip, Selena Oliver, Kimberly Bae, and others) and announced retirees, citing Mr. Heimberg, Bobby McCoy, Lois Felton and Cindy Langren.
Chair remarks included thanks to the honorees for their service and encouragement that attendees do not need to stay for the remainder of the meeting if they had other plans. The chair also announced that board member Jeff Smith submitted his resignation earlier that day and that staff would post the official notice with the clerk’s office and on the district website.
Attorney Elwood outlined the next steps for filling the vacancy: posting the application/notice on the district website and building, scheduling interviews, providing public notice and holding an executive session following a public meeting as required by the replacement process.
The board thanked staff and retirees for their service to students and the district.
