Rock Hill Schools will change its payroll schedule to semi‑monthly paychecks beginning in July 2026, administration announced, shifting employees from one monthly check to paydays on the 10th and 25th of each month.
Bobby Barnes, who introduced the initiative to trustees, said the change will divide benefit deductions, retirement contributions and withholdings evenly between the two pay dates. Employees on a July–June work schedule will begin receiving semi‑monthly pay in July; employees on an August–July schedule will receive a final regular monthly paycheck on July 10 and begin semi‑monthly pay on August 10 as part of a phased approach.
Trustees called the change a "game‑changer" for staff and asked for specifics about December pay dates and summer school pay timing. Barnes said a calendar will be published and that administration plans Q&A communications to help staff anticipate the transition. He said summer school payroll procedures will be adapted so summer instructors do not have to wait until the end of the season for pay.
The board praised the payroll team's work and expressed an expectation that communications and examples be provided to employees before the change takes effect. No formal vote was required for the informational update; trustees did not object to the plan.
Administration said additional technical details and an implementation calendar will be shared with staff and board members ahead of July pay runs.
