Hillsboro honors patrolman Christopher Wackenman for barn rescue

Hillsboro Township Committee recognized Patrolman Christopher Wackenman on May 26 for “truly heroic efforts” after he encountered a fire at 889 Amwell Road while traveling to the 2026 Police Unity Tour.

According to the proclamation read into the record, Patrolman Wackenman moved to the rear of the property, entered the burning barn to remove power equipment and a gas can, prevented further spread of the fire, located the homeowner and evacuated everyone in the residence, assisted with traffic control while waiting for firefighters and retrieved a frightened small dog that had been running into traffic. The mayor told the assembly the proclamation was adopted and praised the officer’s commitment to residents.

The committee congratulated Patrolman Wackenman and the proclamation noted his actions as reflecting “a shining member of our community.”
