Council members reviewed staff maps May 26 proposing targeted no-parking zones around the new fire station to allow apparatus to swing onto West Adams and Lewis streets and to restore a long-standing no-parking zone on the east side of North Court Street.
Staff said the red-marked areas on the map would be designated no-parking to preserve sight lines for fire apparatus and command vehicles; the action would also remove one accessible parking stall and a bus parking stall currently marked on the west side of North Court. The ordinance would take effect Sept. 8 to give residents time to adjust before the station's grand opening.
Councillors asked whether affected property owners had received notice; staff said letters were mailed the previous week and that a follow-up phone outreach would occur. Howard said he would attempt direct contact by phone or door-knock if necessary. Council members also discussed the East Main project timeline and whether new parking spaces should be opened or held in reserve while related property acquisitions and demolition proceed.
No formal vote was taken; staff will follow up with property-owners and return the item for action when ready.
