Library Supervisor Jennifer Bowerman gave trustees a full preview of the Corona Public Library's "Summer at Your Library" schedule, highlighting a range of youth and family services and an expanded free-lunch offering supported by state grant funds.
The kickoff will be June 8 at 11 a.m. with a juggler, Brad Allen. Bowerman said free lunches will be available for anyone aged 18 and under on Tuesdays (paired with a movie starting at 12:30 p.m.) and "Lunch and Learn" enrichment programming on Thursdays. "There's no income requirement or anything like that," she said, describing the service as open to all children who attend the library events. Bowerman said the meal service is funded through a California State Library grant and that meal delivery will be provided as part of the district's summer meal program through the Corona-Norco Unified School District.
The presentation listed repeated weekly offerings and special events: mini makers (Wednesdays, ages 62), family STEM nights (June 12 and July 10), guided story walks (June 9 and July 14), mobile outreach "On the Go" park visits in June and July, Raiding with Kittens (an adoption event June 27), teen-focused programming (including a fencing class with registration and a teen murder mystery), a coding class led by a volunteer in July (ages 105), and an adults-only fantasy ball and other evening events.
Bowerman also described the summer reading challenge, which will run June 8'July 31 using the Beanstack platform; paper logs will remain available for patrons without access to the app. "The summer reading challenge will go from June 8th to July 31st," she said, and noted prizes for age groups from toddlers through adults and sponsor contributions from local businesses.
Trustees thanked staff for the programming and asked for the presentation slides to be shared. Staff said outreach and partnership elements will continue to evolve, with registration information and capacity limits posted for classes that require sign-up.
