Board members reviewed proposed language on gifts, grants and bequests and agreed the policy should acknowledge formally approved donations without requiring the board to process every informal or small gift. Members said routine items (for example classroom supplies or retired teachers donating books) are impractical to route through the board and supported language that acknowledges formally approved gifts while allowing everyday practice to continue.
On naming rights and sponsorships, members noted recent examples in other organizations and said the district could consider limited, time‑bound sponsorships (video boards, facility names) but should adopt specific guidelines before soliciting or accepting such agreements. Members asked staff to draft clear criteria and revenue expectations before approaching potential sponsors.
The committee also reviewed memorial policy language and confirmed existing permanent memorials at the high school and benches/trees honoring students; members said memorial scholarships and related activities are appropriate examples to include in policy language.
Staff will return a revised draft with clearer procedures for gift acknowledgement, suggested guidelines for sponsorships/naming proposals, and confirmation of memorial approval steps.
