Trustees approved a $44,712 contract with Autism Family Services of Bowman LLC to provide applied behavior analysis (ABA) services for Head Start students and staff at Wheatley School of Early Childhood Programs.
The superintendent said the district is serving students across a wide spectrum of autism diagnoses and needs additional provider support to help families and campuses find the right interventions. "We have a number of kids that are coming in the district and a number of kids across the United States that have been diagnosed with autism," the superintendent said, noting the district’s desire to provide company support and family work to identify appropriate services.
A trustee who pulled the item for discussion said the contract is worth highlighting publicly as an example of targeted support for students with special needs. The board voted to approve the contract by voice and hand signal.
Staff did not provide a public line‑by‑line breakdown of how the $44,712 will be allocated in the meeting record; the contract award and the vendor name were recorded in the agenda item.
