The Newnan City Council unanimously approved a temporary closure of a portion of Cougar Way to allow construction and roadway paving tied to Link Section 13, a project the city wants substantially complete before Newnan High School opens for the fall term.
Staff explained the closure would likely run through June and July but that contractors would reopen the road earlier if they beat the schedule. The closure affects the block between Lraange Street and Su Road; staff said they hand-delivered notices to affected residents and would ensure residents have access during the closure.
Officials said the contractors are coordinating utility relocations (including an Atlantic Gas Light line) and paving so work can proceed efficiently, and staff said the city expects to accommodate scheduled July 4 fireworks at the site even if the road work remains active.
A councilmember asked about resident access and the staff response affirmed phone contact and contractor assistance for driveways. Council approved the closure by voice vote with no opposition.
