The House of Representatives on a voice vote concurred in the Senate proposal of amendment to House Bill 928, a technical corrections bill affecting Vermont fish and wildlife statutes.
Member from Plet outlined the amendment section by section, saying the bill changes the uniform point system for hunting violations (10 VSA §452), gives the Commissioner of Fish and Wildlife discretion to set license expiration dates as 365 days after issuance (10 VSA §4263), and authorizes the department to assess fees for additional big-game tags with a one-year requirement to seek legislative authorization (10 VSA §4255). The Senate amendment also places into statute certain fees previously listed in Fish and Wildlife rule as H.933 sunsets that rule, and adjusts reporting requirements for the Champion Lands acquired in 1998 under 1999 Acts and Resolves No. 1, sec. 87A. The committee recommended the amendment on a favorable straw poll.
The House Ways and Means committee noted the fees moved into statute reflect current department practice and reported no discernable fiscal impact; members of legislative counsel and the joint fiscal office also advised the chamber. Member from Woodstock said the committee’s review and the fiscal review supported concurrence.
The presiding officer announced the body had concurred in the Senate proposal of amendment by voice vote. The bill's remaining sections take effect on July 1, 2026.
