The OAKFIELD-ALABAMA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT Board of Education voted to appoint Mrs. Lauren Carter as the district's next superintendent, approving her employment contract and making the appointment effective July 6, 2026.
The motion to approve "the appointment of Mrs. Lauren Carter as a new superintendent of schools effective July 6th, 2026 and the approval of the employment contract" was introduced by the chair and then put to a vote; the board voted in favor and the motion passed. No roll-call vote tally or individual votes were recorded in the transcript.
In remarks announcing the motion and after the vote a board member identified as the chair praised Carter and thanked those involved in the selection process, saying the board "feel[s] strongly that you are absolutely fit and the best person to represent our district moving forward" and noting participation from the betterment committee, the PTO, past board members, CSEA, OATA and the Hton Library.
Mrs. Lauren Carter addressed board members, staff and community members, saying she was "deeply honored and humbled to be selected as the next superintendent for this district." Carter said she is committed to "putting students first while building strong partnerships with teachers, staff, and families," and described priorities including stability, continuity and open communication.
The meeting was presented as a short, special session dedicated to a single agenda item. After the appointment and Carter's remarks, a procedural motion to end the meeting was made and approved.
The appointment is effective July 6, 2026, and the board welcomed Carter as she prepares to assume leadership of the district.
