Debo's Diner Investments asked the Dalton-Whitfield Planning Commission to modify a condition attached to a previous annexation that specified driveway alignment along South Tibs Road.
Ethan Calhoun told the commission the city public works department requested the change because existing traffic conditions at the adjacent intersection frequently backlog turning traffic. "Public works had asked us to consider revising that or it wants to go through the process to change that condition and allow public works to be the entity that will determine ultimately where that driveway access needs to be," Calhoun said.
Jake Bearden, representing the petitioner, said the city would prefer the entrance about 90 feet north of the originally specified location and that the site plan includes an internal drive connection to the adjacent Steak and Shake property. "We're actually building a drive on the interior of the site that will connect that property with Steak and Shake," Bearden said. He also said the petitioner will announce the single commercial user soon.
Staff recommended striking condition number four and replacing it to give Dalton public works discretion over final driveway location; commissioners moved and approved the recommendation. No opposition speakers were recorded. The commission will forward its recommendation to city decision-makers for final action.
