Senior Librarian Ally Goodwin and Library Assistant Terry Bridal presented the library’s Summer Reading Adventure program to trustees on May 27.
Goodwin said the program — which the library calls SRA — runs Monday, June 1 through Saturday, August 1 and is themed "Plant a Seed Read," a package provided by the iRead program and supported by the California State Library. "The program invites patrons of all ages to participate by reading and listening to books, exploring new technologies in the hub, and enjoying a variety of live performances and hands on programs," Goodwin said.
Bridal described milestones, rewards and partner support: Friends of the Carlsbad Library funds reading rewards and performers, while organizations including the San Diego Natural History Museum and San Diego Children's Discovery Museum provided free passes; local sponsors and businesses contributed additional prizes. Beanstack will be used for digital logging, with paper logs available for those who prefer them.
Staff noted the program is one week shorter than in past years because scheduled RFID equipment is due to arrive in early August. The SRA will include family performances, teen workshops (AI story labs, anime painting) and adult programs (Grow Your Garden, Waterwise Plants). A local author fair and outdoor story walk are among featured events.
Why it matters: The SRA is a major annual outreach effort designed to sustain reading skills and community engagement through the summer months.
