Town staff updated the committee on transfer station projects and pending maintenance needs.
Staff reported that trenches and electrical work for the new compactor and recycling pad are complete or near completion and that recycling operations should be ready by July once the concrete pad is finished. "As soon as the ground thaws and the ... trenches dug and everything for the cables... glass is ready to go," the Chair noted when summarizing staff remarks.
Members identified several building repairs that affect safety and operations: an egress window that will require cutting block and installing a header, a water softener that needs servicing or recharge, roof screws backing out and occasional flooring and toilet replacements. Committee members debated whether to fund those items from building maintenance, property maintenance or CIP and whether to split the line items ("6 and 6") to preserve eligible uses.
On recycling operations, staff said signage and sticker enforcement will be implemented, with a plan to begin enforcement in February and to provide temporary passes for summer users. The committee asked staff to provide cost estimates and a timeline to confirm the July start date and to clarify whether heating changes or new equipment would increase recurring operating costs.
No formal votes were taken; members agreed to gather firm cost estimates and bring the transfer station maintenance and recycling start-up back for a subsequent meeting.
