The Onalaska School District Board of Education voted to approve the 2026–27 4K preschool partner contracts with First Lutheran and YMCA North.
Jen Kalis, who presented the contract updates, told trustees the district will move to two contracted 4K partners this year and has aligned contract language with recent Department of Public Instruction and legislative changes. "We are no longer required by law to do the 87.5 hours of community engagement or otherwise known as family outreach hours," she said, and described plans for "a more formal walk through alignment" to ensure consistent quality across partner sites so "wherever children in Onalaska go to preschool, they'll have a similar high quality experience." Trustees moved and seconded the motion to approve the contract documents and agreements; the board approved the motion by voice vote.
The contracts update contains other technical adjustments to align with DPI language and statewide changes. Kalis and trustees described the changes as primarily procedural and quality-assurance focused. The district will enter into the contracts and proceed with partner onboarding for the 2026–27 school year.
The board did not list a formal roll-call tally in the transcript for this motion; the chair announced the measure as approved.
