Fayette council approves repairs and appointments, recognizes pollinator garden and summer programs

The Fayette City Council approved several expenditure items, confirmed planning commission appointments, and used the meeting to highlight local programs and events.

Repairs and contracts: The council approved a contractor quote to repair storm damage to the Buster Hall concession stand and press box. Chris presented the damage assessment and said Ballard Builders of Winfield provided the only standing quote at $44,862; the council approved moving the quote to the insurance adjuster for review and accepted the proposal. Community programs and recognitions: The mayor and council recognized volunteers who built a pollinator garden at Bill's Trail and announced a ribbon-cutting Thursday at noon. Council members congratulated Fayette Hare track athletes who medaled at a state meet (Kimeria Maddox among those recognized). Library staff reported the largest-ever summer reading program with a 16-page calendar of events, a dinosaur theme, seven day camps, and about 50 additional programs; the presenter said the program is fully community funded through sponsorships and the community foundation.
