Following an executive session on May 22, the Fayette County Commission announced it had interviewed five applicants to fill the seat left vacant by the late Commissioner Greg and moved to appoint Chuck Miller to serve until the November general election.
The chair said all five interviewees offered strong ideas and that the decision was not taken lightly. Commissioners noted there were nine total applicants; two were ineligible because they did not reside in the relevant district and two others were not present for interviews. One commissioner, who also serves on the GOP executive committee, said the committee held a meeting that may have fallen one day short of notice requirements under party bylaws; a follow-up meeting was scheduled for the Glen Bear Center on the coming Thursday to reconfirm any committee nominations if needed.
The commission made the appointment by motion and second; the record shows the motion carried though individual vote tallies were not read into the transcript. The commission said it will stay in touch with all applicants and may draw on their ideas in the coming months.
Chuck Miller will serve until the November election, when voters will choose who holds the seat for the remainder of the term or the next full term as applicable.
