The Cullman County Commission completed routine agenda business including approval of the April 21, 2026 minutes, appropriations, expenditures, payroll and journal entries. Commissioners recorded no public comments and then recognized two Animal Control employees, Johnny Jarrett and Cooper Harris, for graduating from the police academy.
The board approved a series of resolutions and routine actions by voice vote, including Resolution 2026-19 to vacate County Road 270 and Resolution 2026-26 to set a 35 mph speed limit on County Road 1656. The commission ratified a professional services agreement for phase-one ADA compliance work at Smith Lake Park campground (recorded at $40,000), ratified an agreement listed in the minutes with Adobe (amount recorded in the transcript as '11,37981' and flagged as unclear), and approved a $2,600 letter of understanding with the Alabama Tourism Department for the Smith Lake Park July Festival.
The commission also approved an agreement with Brinks for cash-management services related to in-house bond billing and authorized an agreement with Campy Boat Rental to operate at Smith Lake Park. Staff presented and the commission approved the FY2025 citizens report for publication on the county website and in print.
Several minor subdivision plats were approved without recorded opposition: Indian Spring resubdivision, Gold Ridge Meta subdivision, Forest Trace re-subdivision, Schoolhouse Acre phase two, and The Enclave at Smith Lake (10 lots). The commission granted a 12-month extension for the Bales Cove development permit because the developer is delayed securing construction funds.
The commission set the next work session and regular meeting for Thursday, June 18, 2026, and adjourned the meeting on motion.
