Commission hears Hidden Valley residents' plea as public works weighs grading and rock options

Commissioners discussed longstanding road problems in the Hidden Valley subdivision after a commissioner raised resident complaints about washouts that have hampered mail and delivery services.

Public Works Director Kenny told the commission that the subdivision’s hilly roads wash out frequently and that restoring main in-and-out thoroughfares should be the first priority to preserve emergency access. He recommended asking the HOA to supply rock for initial repairs while county crews follow with blading and grading. "If they would help us with the rock, I don't see no problem with going in and doing the main in-and-out," a commissioner said during the discussion.

Commissioners asked Kenny to quantify man-hours and equipment needs and to return with a plan that estimates time and materials. Several members cautioned that manpower and equipment are already stretched because of other paving, chip-seal and asphalt work scheduled for the season.

What happens next: Public works will evaluate time and resource estimates and report back with a plan for main thoroughfare repairs and schedule recommendations.
