Rush County approves five owner-occupied rehab contracts; program expected to assist 35 homes

Commissioners approved five owner-occupied rehabilitation contracts after a program representative summarized the work completed and underway.

The presenter said 10 homes are "absolutely completely done," 12 more are currently under construction, five contracts were before the board for approval and eight additional homeowners are scheduled for initial inspections before an early-June deadline. The representative said the program is on pace to assist 35 homes overall and that grant funding runs through the end of 2027.

The Chair moved and the motion was seconded to approve the five contracts, referred to in the meeting as "group 2." Commissioners voted by voice and the Chair announced the motion carried.

A commissioner read the five addresses proposed for contracts: 21614 Pillsbury; 222 North Pillsbury; 409 Main Street, Glenwood; and 311 West Mainland. County staff said contracts would be signed on Monday and the program would continue moving other homes through inspection and construction.

The board also thanked local partners, including the assessors office, for assistance with recently acquired properties and related tax issues.

Next steps include signature of the contracts and continued inspections for homes awaiting initial review.
