Council approves series of contracts and purchases including airport fuel extension, police precinct design and Fire Station 12 design

Murfreesboro — The City Council voted May 21 to approve several procurement and professional‑services items, including a one‑year option for airport fuel service, furniture purchases, contract amendments and design agreements for public safety facilities.

Mister Cokie presented Amendment 1 to the Titan Aviation Fuels contract, noting Titan was awarded the original competitive sealed proposal three years ago to provide airport fuel services and associated equipment. Council approved exercising the one‑year option.

Chief Owen requested approval to purchase office furniture from Hendrickson (identified in discussion as a Nashville company) through a cooperative contract for a stated total cost of $7,077,002 to be funded by federal equitable funds; the motion passed by roll call. Staff also presented a first amendment to the contract with Heritage Cleaners for laundry and dry cleaning services used by the police and fire departments; staff said the contract was originally approved May 22, 2025, expires June 30, 2026, and that annual expense is expected to be roughly $100,000 for MPD and $45,000 for MFRD. Council approved the amendment.

Council also approved an agreement with Galls to provide public safety uniforms and equipment, with staff anticipating spending up to $500,000 for the purchase.

On capital projects, staff presented a $768,210 professional‑services agreement with Klein Sweeney Associates LLC for architectural and engineering design of a 21,000‑square‑foot West Precinct facility on city‑owned property at Veterans Parkway. Council approved the design contract and staff said the fee is accounted for in the FY26 CIP budget. Council also approved a $333,672 design agreement with Johnson and Bailey for Fire Station Number 12, which staff said will serve a roughly 2.9‑square‑mile district and about 9,000 residents; the design fee is in the FY26 CIP budget.

Each item was moved, seconded and approved by roll call; staff emphasized the public‑safety and facilities items are intended to address growth and response needs on the city’s west side.
