Commissioners approve transfer of roughly 6.22 acres to Open Arms camp for septic upgrade

Randolph County commissioners on May 6 approved Resolution 2026-09 to transfer roughly 6.22 acres to the Open Arms camp so the nonprofit can upgrade its septic system.

Chair Lord opened a public hearing on the transfer under Resolution 2026-1 and said the land would allow the camp to “upgrade their septic system.” No members of the public spoke during the hearing, which the board closed before moving to the formal resolution vote.

A commissioner moved to approve the transfer and the board voted to adopt Resolution 2026-09. The board also voted to authorize signing the associated warranty deed to complete the transfer.

Why it matters: the transfer removes a local regulatory obstacle for the camp to improve onsite sanitation, which the county said is the purpose of approving the resolution. The vote did not include any attached conditions noted on the record.
