The Ocean Shores committee reviewed the FAA’s 5010 airport-master-record inspection at the May 19 meeting and identified two follow-up items: removal of moss on a taxiway sign and retrofitting some runway lights on frangible supports.
The presenter said the inspection included an engineering advisory circular to guide frangible installations and provided the reference: “150/5220-23.” Committee members agreed the AC and the inspection report should be forwarded to Public Works (Ricky) and to Alex for review; Scott said he would meet with city staff when Ricky returns from travel to go over the engineering details.
Why it matters: frangible supports are designed to break away on impact so fixtures will fail in a way that minimizes damage to landing gear during an accidental off-runway event. The committee asked staff to return with a status update and recommended that the AC be placed on the next meeting agenda as a trackable action item.
Action items assigned: distribute AC 150/5220-23 and the inspection report to public-works staff and include a frangible-support update on the next meeting agenda.
