A presenter for the City of Sandy Springs said the city used National Public Works Week to highlight a recent stormwater repair that began after a homeowner reported a sinkhole on West Wieuca Drive.
"This week marks National Public Works Week," the presenter said, adding the year's theme is "rooted in service, powered by community." The presenter credited residents with alerting the city and initiating the response that led to the repair.
The presenter said inspectors determined the sinkhole was caused by an "84-in corrugated metal pipe" and that crews replaced it with reinforced concrete pipe. "We figured out that that sinkhole is because of the 84-in corrugated metal pipe. We were changing it to reinforce concrete pipe," the presenter said, describing the cause and the corrective action.
City staff framed the repair as a demonstration of routine public-works work and community reporting. The presenter urged residents to report infrastructure problems to the Sandy Springs Call Center and provided the number: "Our Sandy Springs Call Center is available 24/7 at 770-730-5600," the presenter said.
The segment closed with the presenter thanking residents for their reports and a light remark about hoping not to be back "for the next 75 years." There was no discussion of policy decisions, votes, or follow-up actions in the segment; it presented the repair as a completed field response and an informational public-service announcement.
