The Montgomery Township Board of Education approved routine and contractual agenda items (1.1–4.1) at its May 19 meeting by roll-call vote while discussing employee health‑benefit renewals, a brokered private insurance option and preliminary shared-services discussions with the township.
Before the vote the board spent considerable time on benefits. The administration said the district uses a private plan brokered by Brown & Brown and that the district explored but did not adopt self‑insurance or the State Health Benefit Plan because of projected cost and risk differences; district and OFF (operations) advisors presented a prescription‑cost pilot (direct manufacturer purchasing for GLP‑1 drugs) described by committee staff as novel for New Jersey and subject to legal review.
Board members asked for historical comparisons and stressed transparency. The business administrator asked board members to submit granular questions about the bills list in advance for staff to answer; detailed line‑item questions on snow‑removal invoices and unpaid checks were deferred to follow‑up. The district said it will provide additional documentation and requested time to consult counsel about the prescription purchasing plan before any commitment.
On shared services, OFF reported an initial exploratory meeting with Montgomery township officials about joining for bulk purchasing of technology and infrastructure; township representatives were to supply inventory lists for legal and procurement review.
Vote outcome: the motion to approve agenda items 1.1–4.1 carried. Dr. W abstained on items 3.5 and 3.6. Two board members recused themselves from a personnel/incident item listed as 1.1C (incident 3305168). The board directed administration to provide follow‑up documentation on health‑benefit options and to circulate OFF's summary of the shared‑services next steps.
The meeting closed after public comments on technology use and the board's pledge to follow up with a working group request from parents.
