The Bronxville Union Free School District Board of Education voted to approve construction and trade contracts for its summer project, authorizing roughly $11.6 million in work and directing staff to notify winning bidders.
At the meeting, the board approved a general construction contract listed on the agenda for $8,739,539, a plumbing contract to Mangler Mechanical for $587,000, an HVAC contract to Mangler Mechanical for $1,562,000 and an electrical contract to Neighbor Electric Corp. for $698,765. The four awards together total $11,587,304.
The board’s presiding officer noted staff expectations that the contracts include allowances for change orders and that the project budget contains contingency funds. Board discussion acknowledged references indicating some past projects were completed under budget but occasionally ran longer than originally scheduled; advisors and staff said references generally supported the contractors’ capacity for work of this size.
Board members debated schedule and risk-management options briefly before voting to accept the bids. Following the vote, the board directed staff to issue award letters to contractors the next morning.
The project timeline and detailed scope will be overseen by the district’s facilities committee; staff said the field regrooming, gym surface work and related repairs will be phased over the summer and will inform longer-term field-replacement planning.
