The Olentangy Local School District board recognized two Liberty High School students, Ben Curran and Chase Peterson, on May 20 for winning prizes in this year’s C‑SPAN StudentCam documentary competition.
Ben Curran described his film "A Right to Health," which explored whether health care should be treated as a fundamental right; his entry won first prize in the high‑school central division ($3,000) and a $500 fan‑favorite award. Chase Peterson’s documentary, "Against the Silence," examined the Declaration of Independence’s influence on Vietnam War protests and local history including Kent State; he won second prize in the central division ($1,500) plus a $100 behind‑the‑scenes award.
Both students played short clips, discussed their reporting and research process, and told the board where the videos are posted (StudentCam website and personal YouTube channels). Board members praised their work, urged the district to share the videos through board updates and commended the students’ research and public‑facing storytelling skills.
No board action was required; the recognition highlighted student achievement and district communications.
