During the May 21 meeting the superintendent reported ongoing problems with the district’s transportation contractor, Durham School Services, and described steps the administration is taking to hold the vendor accountable.
Superintendent Dr. Senko told the board the district recognizes the “turmoil” families experience when buses are late or routes are disrupted and that Council Rock is pressing Durham to improve reliability and communication. "Under our contract, Durham employs the bus drivers, owns and operates the buses, and is responsible for managing daily driver coverage and route assignments," the superintendent said, explaining why operational failures at the contractor immediately affect students and families.
Administration said staff met with Durham earlier that day, including the contractor’s new vice president, Justin Cox, who has agreed to speak publicly to the community in the near future. The district said it will continue meeting with Durham leadership and pursue fixes that prioritize student safety and timely transportation.
Superintendent and staff asked the public to rely on district communications rather than social media for official updates and said they will continue pressing the contractor for stronger performance and better notification when service problems occur. The board did not take formal action in the meeting beyond requesting continued follow-up from administration.
Next steps mentioned at the meeting include continued meetings between district leadership and Durham, a planned in‑person community conversation with Durham’s leadership, and ongoing administrative monitoring of contractor performance.
