The City of Whitehouse Economic Development Corporation on May 21 discussed syncing its economic-development strategy with the city's forthcoming strategic plan, which staff said centers on shaping community life, activating economic investment and building organizational capacity.
Staff described anticipated plan elements including two proposed development districts to concentrate design, branding and infrastructure to attract anchor tenants. "I do think what will come out of that is kind of three focus areas which are shaping community life, activating economic investment and building organizational capacity," Susan (Clerk) said while summarizing the city's stakeholder work.
Board members urged realistic, locally appropriate targets. One member argued a large data center is unlikely because of local land constraints and said the EDC should concentrate on retail, restaurants and mixed-use development to grow the local economy. The board agreed to pursue a workshop and to consider a joint session with the city council in the coming months to ensure coordination on district design, land use and infrastructure capacity.
Staff was asked to circulate possible July dates for the workshop and joint meeting. No formal policy was adopted at the session.
