Middle-school students presented the Haverford Township School District’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program during the May 21 board meeting, explaining how the approach teaches and rewards expected behavior.
Dr. Heran introduced a student team of presenters: Steven Campanelli, Val Ford, Julia Hobs, Lincoln Kurt, Mia Loing and Avana Torres. Students described the PBIS matrix ("Ready, Respectful, Responsible"), schoolwide expectations in locations such as cafeteria, gym and hallways, and the Rev/RevUp ticket reward system. Students said tickets and postcards can be redeemed at a school store or entered into weekly raffles; prizes mentioned an official PBIS T-shirt and small items requested by students, such as candy and stationery.
Presenters said PBIS is taught through advisory lessons and short videos that model dos and don'ts and that the program aims to build relationships, improve behavior, and increase student belonging. Board members thanked the students and district staff for implementing PBIS and noted the program’s role in creating consistent expectations across school settings.
The presentation included a short live demonstration of the raffle process and a reminder that tickets encourage participation and positive interactions.
