The Town of Smyrna Board of Zoning Appeals voted to approve a special exception to permit contract construction services across the parcel that includes 131 and 133 Weekly Lane.
Staff told the board the site is zoned I‑1 but has for years hosted a mix of primarily commercial and office tenants; the prior 2009 approval applied to a specific suite for an HVAC repair‑training business, so staff said the current request was necessary to allow contract construction services across the entire parcel rather than for a single suite. Staff referenced ordinance sections governing special exceptions (including Section 7.060 and 5.053.1C) and said the property can accommodate required parking, utilities and refuse collection without creating additional traffic or safety problems.
The public hearing was opened and, with no speakers, closed. A board member moved to approve the special exception per staff findings; after a second, the chair announced the request was approved. The transcript records no public opposition and no roll‑call tally of votes.
Staff noted the request is consistent with other approvals the town has granted in similar multi‑tenant industrial parcels and that signage and exterior lighting would require separate permits if the tenant pursues them. The BZA’s approval allows contract construction businesses to operate on the parcel subject to compliance with all municipal ordinance provisions and applicable permitting.
