The Independence Public Utility Advisory Board on May 21 approved the minutes of its March 19 meeting, reviewed financial and operating reports from Independence Power and Lights (IPL), and received a brief introduction to the city s new manager.
During financial reports staff stated IPL's amended operating budget for the year is $157 million with approximately $125 million recorded year to date; operating is running around 5% of total budget to date. Capital projects for IPL total $51 million with $10 million used so far; the water capital amended budget is $32 million with about $5 million used; sanitary sewer capital is amended at $35 million with $3.2 million used. Staff also noted a penalties/fees line around $143,000.
A board member moved to accept the March minutes and a second was recorded; the board voted and the minutes were approved (tally not specified). Staff confirmed a sewer charge increase effective July 1. The deputy city manager introduced Troy Anderson as the new city manager and the board welcomed him but no substantive action regarding the appointment was taken at the meeting.
The board was reminded that the June meeting will include a presentation of a water cost-of-service study and that staff will return with further details on AMI and the Blue Valley project in coming months. The meeting adjourned with the next meeting scheduled for June 18.
