The Ogden School District used the opening portion of its May meeting to highlight student and staff achievements across athletics, academics, CTE and the arts.
Jamie Fippen, Ben Lman High softball coach, introduced Brooklyn Richie, who received her third academic All-State honor. "Brooklyn is an absolute delight…in the classroom she must be pulling that 4.0," Fippen said. Richie thanked her coach and families.
Lorenzo Lopez of the Inter Mountain Sports Field Managers Association said district grounds manager Brett Barker’s work led to a national Field of the Year award and broad recognition among professional grounds crews. "To be recognized on the stage is a monumental event," Lopez said, praising district support for groundskeeping and athletics.
Weber State enrollment staff member Madison Hartman congratulated multiple district students who earned college credentials alongside high school diplomas, naming Ben Lman and Ogden High students who earned associates degrees and certificates through dual enrollment.
CTE teacher Luke Manico announced Ivan, a junior who won the state SkillsUSA Job Skill Demo and will compete nationally in Atlanta. Margaret Holmes and others recognized FBLA/FBLA-type winners and History Day state champions; several History Day projects will go to the national contest, and one project will be showcased at the Smithsonian.
Visual arts specialist Emily Koslooki summarized the Elementary Festival of Arts, reporting more than 500 attendees and about 300 judged art pieces, and thanked the board and district staff for supporting arts programs.
Board members and staff gave retiring History Day leader Lisa a round of thanks and applause. The recognitions were largely ceremonial; the meeting then moved to routine business.
