The Glynn County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved two right-of-way abandonment requests during its May 21 meeting.
The board first approved AB-26-7, a request from applicants Charlotte Brookshire and David and Pristine Pierce to abandon an unimproved stretch of right-of-way adjacent to 97 and 98 Marsh Court in Brunswick. Jason Hartman, Glynn County engineering director, told commissioners the section is currently unused, showed plats and drone photos of the roughly 60-foot roadway portion proposed for abandonment, and said staff received no utility comments and no public opposition during the comment period. Commissioner Rafolski moved to approve AB-26-7; Commissioner Clark seconded and the board voted unanimously to adopt the abandonment.
Later the board considered AB-26-5, an abandonment on the northeast boundary of parcel 04-02984 at 4322 13th Street on St. Simons Island. Hartman said staff found existing improvements in the alley—pavers, a putting green and a shed—and that code compliance was working to resolve encroachments. Hartman reported Georgia Power requested an easement spanning the abandonment area and that Glynn County Public Works sought to retain a drainage easement.
Trace Copeland, the applicant for AB-26-5, told the commission he applied to gain a 10-foot portion of the alley and said he has been coordinating with the adjacent property owner to handle encroachments. “I applied to gain the 10 ft. If you have any questions that I could answer, I’d be glad to,” Copeland said.
Commissioner Duncan moved to approve AB-26-5 with two conditions: Glynn County Public Works retain a drainage easement across the abandonment area, and Georgia Power be granted an easement over the same area. Commissioner Clark seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The approvals return the abandoned parcels to the county tax digest, Hartman said. No formal individual roll-call votes were recorded in the public discussion; the clerk announced each decision as unanimous.
What’s next: AB-26-7 and AB-26-5 were approved at the meeting; any required recording of deeds and easements will follow standard county processing.
