The Mecklenburg County Planning Commission approved a special-exemption permit allowing a nine-site recreational-vehicle (RV) park on the east side of Route 4 (Bugs Island Road), about 900 feet south of Tanner Drive, in Election District 6.
Henry Wilson, who said he lives in Palmer Springs and that this is a phase-two expansion following an earlier 10-site campground approved in November 2023, told commissioners his first phase had no compliance issues and that demand from traveling nurses, construction workers and others motivated the additional sites. "I'm trying to just expand a little bit because there's a great need for traveling nurses," Wilson said.
Wilson told the commission he will install a new septic and well system for the second phase; no other utilities or on-site changes beyond those were described in the hearing. Commissioners had no recorded objections. A commissioner representing Election District 6 moved to approve the application with the conditions in the staff report; the transcript records an initial reference to "29 conditions" followed immediately by a correction to "39." The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote; the record does not include a roll-call tally.
The commission closed the public hearing portion of the agenda after the vote and proceeded to approve minutes and hear the administrative report.
