Fire commission adopts firefighter eligibility list; chiefs report on fires, training and station repairs

The Fairfield Fire Commission unanimously adopted the firefighter eligibility list effective May 15, 2026, through May 14, 2027. Commissioner Klinga read a 14‑candidate rank‑ordered list and a motion to adopt the list was moved and seconded; the vote was recorded as unanimous.

The commission also accepted a packet donation of $100 (listed in the packet as donor 'Cheryl Coat'); commissioners noted there was no supporting documentation in the meeting packet but moved to accept the donation and approved it.

In operational reports, a deputy chief summarized recent incidents and department operations, saying the town had three building fires this month (including one in which a firefighter fell through a burned staircase but was protected by SCBA and recovered), three vehicle fires, and successful mock crash exercises at two high schools. He reported Ladder One is back in service after cylinder replacements and testing, Line supply work is in service, Ladder Two is being rebuilt, and ongoing station projects include bathroom bids, kitchen repairs at Station Three and a septic rebuild at Station Five.

Commissioners praised the hiring process for the recent eligibility list and thanked the members who served on the panel. The commission also discussed the need for continued attention to station facilities and for coordination with public works on repairs.

No formal votes on budgetary appropriations or capital projects were taken during the meeting; commissioners said they will pursue further work through the budget process and seek updates from staff.
