EAGLE PASS, Texas — The City Council on May 19 authorized the city manager to execute an agreement with LJA for design of the Camino Royale International Bridge expansion.
Staff and the presenter described the current schematic concept: a six‑lane deck addition (six 12‑foot lanes) with approximately 1,361 linear feet of span and roughly 45 feet of center separation from the existing deck. The consultant and staff summarized an earlier, larger cost estimate near $14 million and said successive scope reviews and negotiations brought the city’s master‑agreement obligation down to just over $8 million.
"This is the latest version as LJA has commenced their layout and preliminary schematic design," city engineering staff said, outlining the work to be completed to reach a 30% schematic design phase. Council members asked for clarification on the cost reductions and schedule; staff said the design phase is progressing and recommended approval to allow task orders as funding becomes available.
Council voted unanimously to approve the agreement with LJA and to permit the city manager to execute and manage task orders as funds are secured.
What’s next: LJA will proceed to advance schematic design; staff will release task orders and pursue necessary funding and permitting actions to support continued design and later construction phases.
