Trustees ask staff to study driver-training repayment and a staff-expression policy

Trustee Grissom asked the Lakeland District policy committee to review the district’s driver-training responsibility and repayment processes after reports that several employees obtain commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) paid by the district and then leave within a year. Committee members said addressing the issue will likely require additional investigation into turnover, contractual repayment language and program costs.

Trustee Kimble asked the committee to review a "staff expression" policy used by the Mead School District and determine whether similar language should be adopted in Lakeland. Members said the proposal would need input from district administrators and the appropriate staff teams before any draft could be advanced to the board.

Both items were not finalized; trustees directed staff to gather more information and indicated both topics will return for further committee consideration before any board action.
