Commissioners award asphalt repairs to Venture Corporation, set not-to-exceed $85,000

Cheyenne County commissioners voted to award asphalt repairs at four county roadway locations to Venture Corporation, authorizing the work at a not-to-exceed limit of $85,000.

Road staff presented three bids for the project: Bettis ($253,550), Sweeney (approximately $161,900) and Venture ($79,580). Staff recommended awarding the work to Venture, which bid $79,580 and proposed milling, tapering and a patch (approximately 8 feet by 80 feet by 4 inches) at the affected sites. "Their quote came in at $79,580," the road supervisor said. The supervisor asked the board to set a not-to-exceed amount of $85,000 to account for any additional work discovered during repairs.

A motion to accept Venture Corporation's proposal and authorize up to $85,000 for the repairs was moved and seconded. The transcript records that one commissioner opposed but that the motion carried; no roll-call breakdown or recorded vote tally appears in the public transcript.

Staff listed the locations and explained that Venture has local plant and equipment availability, which helped produce the lower bid.
