The Finance Committee voted May 19 to recommend adoption of an ordinance amending permitting and enforcement rules for oversized vehicles, capping the number of street‑parking permits an individual may receive and allowing police officers to enforce the rule without a resident complaint.
Dr. Michelle Aldrich (City Council, Ward 3) presented the ordinance and told committee members the amendment “limits the number of permits that individuals may apply for from the police department to two” and moves enforcement from a complaint‑driven system to officer‑initiated enforcement. She said the seasonal restriction remains in place for the applicable summer period.
Deputy City Attorney David Hopinson explained a single conforming substitute, noting it “strikes the language … as defined by section 8620A88 of the city code” because that cross‑reference is no longer necessary. The committee adopted the substitute and returned to the main motion.
Councilman Moody moved approval on third and final reading; Councilman Wolf seconded. The committee approved the ordinance to recommend to the full governing body, with Councilman Moody recorded as the lone no vote.
The ordinance will return to the governing body for final action; staff and police will implement the new permit limit and the adjusted enforcement approach once the change takes effect.
