Council backs mixed-use plan designed to preserve Manor Theater and spur small-scale redevelopment

Council voted to approve a conditional rezoning to enable a small mixed-use redevelopment tied to preserving the historic Manor Theater.

Multiple councilmembers described the theater as a local cultural touchstone and said the rezoning would allow better design and amenities while honoring historic aspects of the site. One member said the Manor Theater "has a really, really special place in my heart," and several members cited long personal ties and memories tied to the theater.

Staff and petitioners described the proposal as a compact mixed-use plan with neighborhood support and design elements intended to keep the theater’s character. Council moved and seconded a motion to approve the petition and adopt the zoning committee’s statement of consistency; no opposition was recorded during the voice vote.

The council’s approval will allow the petitioner to continue design work under the adopted consistency statement and move toward implementation with standard planning and permitting steps.
