Village road work will close 9th Avenue and Hickory Street, board told; pickups to be revised for last student days

Administrators told the Grafton School Board that Village of Grafton road work at Cedar Creek Road and 9th Avenue will shut down Hickory Street and 9th Avenue beginning June 8, and is currently planned for a week that will affect district pickup and drop-off at Woodview and John Long during the final three student days (June 8–10).

Superintendent’s remarks and subsequent discussion explained that village contractors and scheduling constraints required an earlier-than-expected start; administration said the village had met with district leaders months earlier when the work was first planned but contract timing now places a critical phase in the last days of school. The district will coordinate with school principals to determine alternate parent pick-up and drop-off procedures for those dates and will communicate logistics to families.

Board members noted the impact will likely extend into summer school operations and the front driveway work at John Long; administration said some construction tasks will roll into summer and that the district will plan communications for staff and families to reduce disruption.

The board did not take formal action on the project; administrators described ongoing coordination with the village and staff planning steps.
