Residents urge action on Staley Road; board says phased repairs will proceed after engineering and funding steps

At the May 18 Town Board meeting residents delivered repeated, emotionally charged appeals for repairs to Staley Road, describing deep potholes, safety hazards and frustration after what they said was years of delay.

Speakers representing a Staley Road steering committee said they had hoped earlier engineering and scheduling would have led to prompt repairs but instead have seen repeated delays. Jim Carlson (2885 Staley Road) described multiple locations with 8- to 12-inch-deep potholes at the pavement edge that he said threaten vehicle safety.

Council members responded directly. Councilman Garcia acknowledged the condition and said he had discussed engineering and bonding options with Highway Superintendent James Sadita and expected the superintendent to begin a section of Staley Road this year; Councilwoman Rhonda Deal said work will need to be broken into sections and stressed that engineering and weather constraints affect immediate patching. Board members urged residents to follow up with the highway superintendent for details and said funding steps (borrowing, engineering contracts) remain necessary before full reconstruction can occur.

No formal vote was taken on road repairs at the meeting. Board members said they will pursue engineering and funding steps and that the highway superintendent has a plan to begin phased work.
