Coffey County Commission approves routine contracts, grant extension and consultant agreement

The Coffey County Commission on Tuesday approved a bundle of routine administrative and contractual items, including tax abatements, a county agricultural program election and a request for an extension tied to a Community Development Block Grant project.

Commissioners authorized the chairman to sign Agricultural Risk Coverage-County Option (ARC-O) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) elections and contracts through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency, a yearly action the board conducts for eligible farmland. The vote was unanimous.

The commission also authorized a 60-day extension request to the Kansas Department of Commerce for the construction contract execution deadline on CDBG project ECDC-USD243, a remodeling effort for an early-childhood medical arts facility. Staff said the extension accommodates a minor schedule adjustment related to administrative leadership transition at the partnering USD; Garrett (staff) was listed as available to answer additional questions about the request.

In personnel and administrative business, the board approved five small tax abatements totaling $1,182.34 after staff clarified a parcel notation labeled "county had road crop," which appraisers said had been changed back to grass following aerial-photo review and field checks.

The commission also approved a consulting agreement with McCulli and Associates for the 2027 valuation year. The contract totals $20,500, billed monthly at $1,778.33, with funds to come from the general fund appraiser departmental contractual line.

All motions described above passed on recorded voice votes or unanimous agreement unless otherwise noted. The meeting also included a range of departmental presentations and requests that will be handled in follow-up staff work.
