City officials used the May 20 Corona City Council meeting to highlight recent and upcoming parks improvements across the city, including the grand reopening of Sheridan Park and a larger downtown City Park revitalization.
Officials described Sheridan Park's new themed playground (a galaxy/outer-space design) and said the city has added splash pads, shade structures and themed equipment at multiple locations. Council and staff cited the parks master plan adopted in 2024 as the roadmap for these projects and said the city has prioritized shade canopies and tree planting to protect children and families.
The presentation also covered the Green Alley project — which staff said repaved 34 alleys (about 2.75 miles), installed 138 LED lights and improved stormwater absorption in disadvantaged neighborhoods — and a recent senior center refresh that included a façade update, expanded outdoor space, ADA improvements and enhanced lot lighting.
Council members framed the investments as reinvestment in downtown and neighborhood public spaces, saying the projects will support community gatherings, concerts and daily family use. A mayoral recognition at the start of the meeting praised the work and anticipated ribbon-cuttings for several projects.
The meeting did not include a formal vote tied to the park updates; staff said most projects stem from the 2024 parks master plan and are proceeding under previously authorized budgets.
