Grimes honors outgoing mayor and council member for eight years of service

The Grimes City Council used its meeting Tuesday to formally recognize Mayor Scott Mickelson and Council Member Ryan Berger for eight years of service (2018–2025). Council members praised the pair for leading the city through a period of rapid growth and for helping deliver major capital projects.

Council remarks highlighted projects completed during their tenure: a new water treatment plant, the public library, a public safety center, the municipal connection to the HY Multiplex (which staff said has welcomed more than 1 million visitors since opening) and dozens of other capital improvements. Speakers also noted organizational changes: creation of new departments, 39 full-time positions added and process improvements intended to professionalize city services.

Presentation items included framed maps showing the city’s footprint at the start of their terms and at the present, and engraved recognition pieces. Multiple council members offered personal remarks; both honored officials thanked staff and residents and said they would remain engaged in the community.

No council action was required; the recognition was ceremonial.
