Board approves street and parking closures for Junth 5K with amended footprint to keep visitor parking open

The Board of Public Works and Safety of Madison City approved two resolutions to support the Junth festival: one authorizing street closures for a 5K run/walk and a second authorizing a limited parking/lot closure for a Junth picnic.

Sue Liver, representing Junth and the Friends of the Laneir Mansion, presented the requests and described the planned footprint and timing. Resolution 2026-20B lists the streets to be closed from 7:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, including 6th Street from West to 5th Street; 5th Street from the KDH entrance to Springdale; Elm Street from 5th to 3rd; Broadway Street from 5th Street to Presbyterian Avenue; Presbyterian Avenue from West Street to Vine Street; Vine Street from Fourth to Third; Third Street from Vine to Poppler; Poplar Street from Third to Presbyterian; and Fourth Street from Vine to Elm.

Board members discussed a needed clarification for resolution 2026-21B (the picnic/parking-lot closing) to ensure the visitor center parking lot remains open. The board amended 2026-21B to describe the closing as "Vine Street south of Second Street to the north entrance of the visitor center parking lot," preserving visitor parking access.

A motion to approve resolutions 2026-20B and 2026-21B with the amended Vine Street language was made and seconded; the board approved both by voice vote (recorded in the transcript as "I"). The transcript does not include a roll-call tally or the names of all individual votes.
