During the May 18 session, the New York State Senate adopted several ceremonial resolutions recognizing civil-rights history and community organizations. Senator Jackson presented a resolution honoring Dorothy E. Reid for her role in Davis v. Prince Edward County School Board, one of the cases consolidated into Brown v. Board of Education; multiple senators highlighted Reid’s courage and urged continued attention to educational equity.
Later the chamber adopted Resolution No. 2094 to commemorate what would be Malcolm X’s 101st birthday. Senator Cleare and several colleagues praised Malcolm X’s leadership and community impact; speakers recalled his advocacy for human rights and local ties to Harlem and cited commemorations such as the Malcolm X Plaza and renamings in the city.
The Senate also recognized Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. on its annual 'Delta Day' in Albany; sponsors and members spoke about the sorority’s history of scholarship, social action and community service. Finally, senators adopted a resolution proclaiming June 2026 as Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month and urged support for patients and caregivers; sponsors highlighted statistics on New Yorkers living with Alzheimer’s and the unpaid hours contributed by family caregivers.
Each resolution was adopted by voice or recorded vote as noted on the floor; the remarks were largely ceremonial and focused on commemoration, community outreach and public-awareness priorities.
